Charlotte Sometimes

We went to Charlotte today to do some furniture shopping and see the hilarious Avenue Q. Michael is not usually my theater buddy, but how could he pass up puppets that swear profusely, talk about masturbation, and simulate sex? Even if you are not a laugh-out-loud person, you may not be able to help yourself as all your innocent Sesame Street memories are smashed. Smashed and then dragged behind a truck. A truck driven by a puppet. While we already suspected that Bert really was gay and that the Cookie Monster was masking other perversions through his addiction to the sweet stuff; it is just now in the open where it belongs.

After getting home last night, we both came to the realization that Iona is a Bad Idea Bear. She completely fits the description...cute and furry, manipulative, seemingly friendly...and then SNAP! Although she is unable to "speak", she does transmit her irresponsible suggestions through telepathy. "You don't REALLY want grilled chicken for dinner, you want pizza. Now give me some." "Have another large glass of wine. Now give ME some." "Don't go to work today, stay at home and pet me." The only reason she hasn't handed one of us a rope yet is because she doesn't have opposable thumbs and still needs us to open the treat cabinet. Hmmm...She actually doesn't require both of us for that. In the words of a puppet, "Shit".

Polos have feelings too

I shall not apologize for my dislike of polo shirts, but please know that it doesn't stop me from liking those that wear them. Some of my favorite people have this cotton collared apparel and wear them often, and with pride. If you are wondering where my recent polo anger stemmed from....it is simply this. I was "highly encouraged" to wear one at an event last Friday night. I would like you all to think back to a time when you have seen me in a polo, that was white, with a logo. Exactly. Never. Hence my hostility.

I 'Heart' Wisconsin

Did ya hear? Did ya hear that Wisconsin hates Jessica Simpson? That made me terribly proud to be a Wisconsinite at heart. Jessica was heckled at her debut country performance at the Country Thunder music festival (somewhere near Kenosha?) over the weekend, and that just made me giggle. The Kenosha Times had some great quotes from fans including, "She's an embarrassment to country music", " It's crap", "I don't hear the twang; she's not good enough to be here". It certainly didn't help that she tried to do a cover from Willie Nelson. Hasn't that silly blonde heard? You don't go to Wisconsin and insult the cheese, brats, cows, the Packers, or the real country music. Wisconsin, you make us all proud.

Bingo, Mosquitos and Drag Queens

Drag Queens typically aren't that pretty. Drag Queens outside in the humid, hot North Carolina weather tackling grassy stairs in heels are certainly not pretty. They are damn entertaining though.

Last night we joined some friends at the Raleigh Little Theatre for Drag Bingo. All proceeds benefit the Alliance for AIDS Services - Carolina, so you not only get to play bingo outside, you are entertained for a great cause. The show was all of 10 minutes in when the glorious emcee - Mary K.Mart - spotted Michael in the crowd and said he was yummy. Of course I agree, but was slightly thankful when "she" turned her attention to other eye candy in the audience. I really didn't need to go a round in the parking lot later with a 6'1 drag queen in skimpy lingerie.

One of the delightful guys next to us fortunately sprayed me down with bug repellent. I am an idiot for going anywhere in this state without it! You would have thought I learned my lesson after being chomped on 19 times in 5 minutes by mosquitos the other night.

We had a great time with great company and we'll definitely make a repeat visit on August 2nd for Garden Party Bingo. We both agreed that we've never spent the night with that many Drag Queens before...sober.
